Roof Cleaning
Black algae treated at no pressure, so your shingles keep their granules.

Roof Cleaning
Those black streaks are algae feeding on the limestone filler in your granules. We treat it with a cleaner applied at no pressure, worked from the ground or a ladder. Nobody walks your roof and nothing gets blasted, because pressure is what strips a shingle and shortens its life.

Questions
Common questions
Will pressure washing damage my shingles?
Yes, and that is exactly why we do not do it. Pressure strips the granules off a shingle, and those granules are what block ultraviolet light and carry the fire rating. A roof gets treated with a cleaner applied at no pressure and left to do the work. Nothing is blasted and nothing is scrubbed.
What are the black streaks on my roof?
A blue green algae. It feeds on the limestone filler mixed into shingle granules, which is why it spreads across a whole slope rather than sitting in one patch, and why it almost always starts on the shaded side first.
Does anyone walk on my roof?
Not if we can avoid it. Most roofs are treated from the ground or a ladder. Walking a roof loosens granules and finds every weak spot, so we stay off it unless the pitch and layout leave no other option.
How long does it take?
Most roofs are two to four hours. We confirm the window when we send the price, and you get a text the morning of.
How long will it stay clean?
Up to six years, depending on climate and the surrounding factors. Overhanging branches, a north facing slope and heavy shade all bring it back sooner. Good sun and open exposure make it last.
What about my plants and gutters?
Beds get soaked down before we mix anything and rinsed again when we finish. Gutters and downspouts get flushed as part of the job, not treated as an extra.
When is the best time of year?
Spring and early autumn are easiest. Mild weather, growth active enough that treatment works properly, and time for the surface to dry afterwards. Summer works too, and we start early on the hottest days so nothing dries before it is rinsed.
What does roof cleaning cost around Cumberland?
It depends on square footage, pitch and how much growth is on the surface. We do not charge by the hour and we do not add fees on the day. You get one flat number in writing before anything is booked.
